Senior Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics

We are very pleased to invite applications for a Senior Clinical Fellow (SpRequivalent) in trauma & orthopaedic surgery at the Royal Free London NHSFoundation Trust. The post will be based either at the Royal Free Hospital orBarnet General Hospital. Elective clinics and trauma will be predominantly atthe Royal Free Hospital site and Barnet General Hospital. Elective operatingwill be carried out predominantly at Chase Farm Hospital and some electiveclincis at this site as well.The post is suitable for a person who wishes to improve their trauma andorthopaedic knowledge and skills, participate in teaching, both undergraduateand post graduate, and develop their research interests.This post will be under the supervision of a named consultant, who will act asthe educational supervisor.The successful candidate will become part of the department, which has 24consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeons based across the Trust.The successful candidate will play an active role in the day to day provision oforthopaedic care to our patients. They will also be expected to participate anddevelop the teaching and research output of the department.The post is for a period of six months in the first instance. The post isrenewable with agreement.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will undertake elective clinics, and will undertake one to two whole day operating lists per week according to demand. Operating lists will be under consultant supervision.

The postholder will be expected to maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of orthopaedic surgery, and will undertake any reasonable clinical responsibility which relates to orthopaedic surgery.

The postholder will be expected to take part in an on-call rota including non-resident cover at night.

The postholder will be expected to be actively involved in the day to day running of the department. They will be expected to take an active and engaged role in departmental and academic responsibilities as allocated by agreement across the department.

The successful applicants will engage fully and proactively in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit.

The postholder will be expected to engage in continuing professional development.

A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointees and the Clinical Director prior to the commencement date of the appointment.

The posts shall be for 6 months with the possibility of renewing subject to staffing at the time. The roles will cover all aspects of clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities, including a clear schedule of commitments.

It shall also include personal objectives.
