A leading NHS foundation trust in the UK is seeking a Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Cardiac Surgery. This 12-month position is ideal for those looking to specialize in congenital cardiac surgery, offering exposure to both paediatric and adult patient care in a collaborative environment. Applicants should have a medical degree and relevant training experience. The role includes responsibility for surgical care, participation in ward rounds, and involvement in teaching and governance activities.
The post is designed for individuals who wish to pursue a career in paediatric cardiac surgery. This post would suit a junior trainee who wishes to gain exposure to congenital cardiac surgery to guide future training, or a more senior trainee considering sub-specialisation in congenital cardiac surgery. The post-holder will work within the Department of Paediatric and Adult Congenital Heart Surgery. This post is for 12 months, with possible extension for suitable applicants. The post will be based at Evelina Children’s Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. You may be required to work at other locations owned or served by the Trust, subject to service demands.
The Department of Paediatric Cardiology provides a comprehensive service to children with congenital and acquired heart disease throughout the network. The department has an active programme of Paediatric Cardiac Surgery, a complete Interventional Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory, Echocardiography, specialised cross-sectional imaging and Electrophysiology. The department is known for excellence and innovation in fetal cardiology, congenital intervention, echocardiography and cardiac MRI. The department provides services across the South Thames region and includes cross-disciplinary teams.
The postholder will, with colleagues, be responsible for providing services to Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, including:
The successful applicant will provide clinical services for paediatric and adult congenital cardiac surgery patients under the guidance of the consultant surgeons. The role will cover all aspects of patient care, including reviewing surgical cases in multidisciplinary meetings, peri-operative care, paediatric intensive care, ward, theatre and on-call duties.
