Job description
Senior Clinical Fellow in Colorectal Surgery

This is a senior fellowship opportunity that is endorsed by the Royal College of Surgeons Eng, to train advanced Minimally Invasive Colorectal Surgery to senior trainees and fellows. This post has been running successfully at Yeovil District Hospital for 5 years and has been endorsed for another 5 years by the RCS. The postholder is expected to work a full-time position with the Colorectal Team but will also include an on-call commitment in the Department of General Surgery, at consultant level on a 1 in 8 on-call rota.

Main duties of the job

The workload includes advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery of the colon and rectum, such as complex minimally invasive pelvic surgery for cancer and benign conditions, Anterior Resection and Abdominoperineal Resection. The candidate will also gain experience in complex hernia surgery both laparoscopically, robotically and open (component separation) and transanal minimal invasive surgery including transanal TME. The candidate will have exposure to diagnostic endoscopy for both upper and lower GI tract. The Fellow will be fully involved in the clinical and management work of the department to prepare them for a consultant post. He/she will be expected to extend and improve their surgical skills and also to help improve the surgical skills of more junior colleagues. Supervision by Consultant staff will always be available.
