Job description
Overview

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a motivated, highly enthusiastic and dynamic Senior or Intermediate Clinical Coder to join our clinical coding team. The Trust is an integrated provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, with inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital and extensive community care.

Working Hours & Conditions

Offer: 37.5 hours per week over 5 days (Mon–Fri). Part‑time hours are also considered. Flexible working is available, and homeworking is on a rotational basis for Band 5 Senior Clinical Coders.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain your clinical coding skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in audit, training and mentoring activities.
  • Communicate effectively with junior clinical coders, auditors and clinicians.
  • Support the continuous improvement of coding practices within the department.
Requirements
  • For the Senior Clinical Coder (Band 5 + 30% R&R Premium), the successful candidate must have passed the NCCQ examination.
  • For a Band 4 Intermediate Clinical Coder, the role may be considered for candidates wishing to take the NCCQ examination or awaiting results, with demonstrable recent experience within NHS clinical coding.
  • Other essential skills include extensive knowledge of ICD-10 and OPCS‑4, a thorough understanding of national clinical coding standards and conventions, and completion of the NHS Digital-approved foundation course.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with colleagues across the department.
  • Willingness to learn and embrace new experiences.
