Overview

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Senior Charge Nurse/ODP Band 7 to join our dynamic Plastic Surgery Theatres with North Sector. North sector theatres comprises of 26 theatres and recovery at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and 6 theatres and recovery at Stobhill ACH with over 12 different specialities. We are looking for a strong, compassionate leader who is passionate about delivering high quality, patient centred perioperative care and inspiring a culture of clinical excellence and continuous improvement. You must be able to work autonomously and part of a team to make clinical decisions and manage competing priorities effectively. You should also be committed to developing a theatre team that fosters a positive and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

You will play a key role in leading staff ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, clinical effectiveness and staff wellbeing across our busy theatre suite. Main duties and responsibilities will be to provide visible, effective leadership within the theatre suite, ensuring the smooth day to day running of theatre services. Provide support and oversee staff in delivering safe, evidence based care in line with board policies and standards. Be able to manage and coordinate theatre activity, staff rotas and resources to meet clinical demand efficiently. You will act as clinical expert and role model for staff, promoting professional development, education and mentorship within the team. You will be responsible for driving quality improvement initiatives and supporting implementation of new policies. You will contribute to governance processes including audit, risk management, incident review and health and safety.

Qualifications

Preferred candidates should possess clinical expertise within theatres of at least 5 years mostly at Band 6 level and be dual trained in both anaesthetic and scrub roles. The successful candidate will be offered a supported induction period with administrative support. This administrative support will be in place to allow you as a Senior Charge Nurse to meet clinical targets and increase visibility within the teams. It is also essential that you have evidence of continual development, IT skills, good communication skills and enthusiasm for working in a fast paced Theatre environment.

Additional Information

As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
