Buyer

Location: Hayes, London

Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 per annum

Working Pattern: 4 days on site, 1 day from home, flexible hours

Holidays: 25 days plus bank holidays

We are looking for an experienced Buyer to join a dynamic engineering and technology team based in Hayes. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Buyer who is organised, proactive, and eager to contribute to operational efficiency while managing supplier relationships and procurement strategies.

As a Buyer, you will be responsible for creating and processing purchase orders, managing supplier performance, and delivering cost savings through effective negotiation and procurement best practices. The successful Buyer will also develop sourcing strategies, manage KPIs, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a key Buyer within the team, managing direct and indirect suppliers and ensuring SLA compliance
  • Process purchase orders in line with quality, cost, and delivery targets
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities and drive procurement efficiencies
  • Support product change requests and assess impact on capacity plans
  • Manage and mitigate supplier risks, including component obsolescence
  • Develop and implement purchasing and inventory management strategies
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders on new projects
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience as a Buyer in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ERP systems (Oracle JD Edwards preferred)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to review costs and supplier performance
  • Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail
  • CIPS, APICS, or similar professional procurement qualification advantageous
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
