Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Business Development Executive to join our global Business Development team within a fast-growing life sciences consultancy.

This client-facing commercial role focuses on generating new business opportunities, securing appointments across the UK and Europe, and supporting end-to-end sales activities for both new and existing clients.

It includes the flexibility to adjust working hours to engage with our US-based clients, while still maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

If you thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and excel at building strong internal and external relationships, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in our commercial growth.

The Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Generation & Prospecting -
    • Proactively engage medium and large life sciences organisations via calls, LinkedIn, and email to identify and qualify new business opportunities.
    • Monitor industry activity (e.g., M&A, divestments, redundancies, offshoring) to uncover emerging sales opportunities and market demand.
  • Appointment Setting & Client Engagement -
    • Deliver high volumes of targeted outbound outreach to generate qualified technical consultations (TCs) and client meetings for senior technical colleagues.
    • Attend meetings with new and existing clients to understand needs, explore opportunities, and support the development of tailored solutions.
    • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, webinars, and networking sessions to grow brand presence and pipeline.
  • Provide comprehensive sales support throughout the full lifecycle, including qualification, follow-up, objection handling, negotiation, and closing.
  • CRM & Market Insights -
    • Maintain accurate, up-to-date CRM records (Salesforce).
    • Use LinkedIn and industry databases to conduct research, build target lists, and monitor market and competitor trends.
    • Contribute to meeting annual revenue and activity targets.
  • Marketing & Brand Collaboration -
    • Partner closely with the Marketing team to ensure BD activity aligns with ongoing campaigns.
    • Provide feedback from client interactions to inform marketing initiatives, content strategy, and thought leadership.
Requirements

Key Qualifications/Skills:

  • 5–7 years’ experience in business development, sales, or commercial roles - ideally within life sciences, consulting, biotech, pharma, or related fields.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building abilities across all organisational levels.
  • Experience with CRM platforms (Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar) and using LinkedIn for lead generation.
  • Proven success in proactive outreach and generating qualified appointments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confident engaging via phone, email, and LinkedIn.
  • Organised, with strong time-management and follow-up discipline.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a global, cross-functional team.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to balance client needs and business goals.
  • Highly proactive self-starter with a results-driven mindset.
  • Comfortable engaging with scientific, technical, and commercial stakeholders.
  • Curious, adaptable, and motivated by the evolving nature of the life sciences industry.
  • Professional and confident communicator with strong attention to detail.
  • Fluency in English required; additional languages (e.g., Spanish, German) a plus.

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Regulatory Affairs, Business Analytics, Business Management, or related discipline preferred.
