Join our dedicated multidisciplinary team at Baldock Manor Hospital as a Senior Assistant Psychologist and help deliver high-quality psychological care to adults with complex mental health needs.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an enthusiastic and capable Senior Assistant Psychologist to support the delivery of specialist psychological services across our inpatient units, including acute and psychiatric intensive care wards. This role presents an excellent opportunity for someone with at least 12 months of prior experience as an Assistant Psychologist, especially in settings involving severe mental illness, neuropsychological conditions, dementia, or personality disorders.

You will work alongside clinical psychologists and therapists to support structured interventions, psychometric assessments, group therapies, and multidisciplinary care planning. This is a varied and meaningful role for those committed to person-centred, recovery-focused care.

About us

Baldock Manor is a 40-bed hospital in north Hertfordshire that provides specialist psychiatric services for adults. The hospital has two female PICU (Psychiatric Intensive Care) wards and two acute wards. Our PICU services provide care and support for women at crisis level with a severe mental disorder who require rapid assessment and stabilisation. Our acute wards care for older adults, usually 55 years or older, who need a short-term hospital stay, where we can stabilise their mental health. The average stay in our acute wards is less than forty days.

Our focus is recovery for our patients with quality care and measurable outcomes at the centre of all we do. Baldock Manor boasts a full MDT with Nursing, Psychiatry, Psychology and Occupational Therapy practitioners on site as well as a very able team of Senior support workers, support workers, Therapies assistants and more.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • A BPS-accredited Psychology degree (minimum 2:1)
  • At least 1 year of employed experience as an Assistant Psychologist
  • Prior experience in clinical mental health settings (e.g., inpatient, neuropsychology, CAMHS)
  • Strong communication, organisation, and time management skills
  • Experience with psychometric assessments and outcome measures
  • A commitment to holistic, person-centred care
Desirable

  • Experience working with detained patients under the Mental Health Act
