A local authority in Swindon seeks a Senior Accounting Technician to support financial management for Children Services. The candidate should have AAT Level 4 or equivalent and will handle budgets, reporting, and financial analysis. The position provides support to one of the Finance Managers for Children Services. The role supports all financial areas including the Dedicated Schools Grant, Education, which includes monitoring grant funding intended to deliver changes in Swindon and across the South West. This role will also be linked to the Dedicated Schools Grant High Needs block.
As a member of the finance team you will be able to work flexibly, in accordance with Swindon's hybrid first working approach. You will have the opportunity to work from home for a significant proportion of the week, subject to the needs of the service and training requirements.
You will be provided with the opportunity to build on existing skills and experience as part of a formal development programme. Further development opportunities may include CIPFA training and Apprenticeship opportunities.
As a minimum you will be required to be qualified at AAT Level 4 or equivalent qualification / a part qualified accountant. Duties will be diverse; you will take responsibility for day-to-day decision making within the role and have the ability to analyse financial data and identify trends. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills to support others to have a good understanding of financial matters of varying complexity.
