An educational support center in Scunthorpe is looking for multiple SEND tutors covering various specialisms. The role is suitable for candidates from entry-level to fully qualified teachers, focusing on supporting young individuals aged 16-19 with Special Educational Needs. Candidates will be part of a supportive environment, with numerous opportunities for mentoring and professional development. The centre is dedicated to safeguarding and equality, welcoming applications from all backgrounds.
At Skills Centre Plus, our mission is simple: to change lives and make a difference. We’re proud to provide a supportive, inspiring environment for young people aged 16‑19 who need a different kind of educational setting that meets their needs, recognises their potential, and helps them thrive.
Our learners all have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and some can display challenging behaviours. We’re looking for someone who is patient, adaptable, and genuinely cares about helping young people succeed—especially those who may not have found success in traditional educational settings.
We are seeking passionate and motivated individuals to join our dynamic team at Skills Centre Plus. Whether you are just beginning your journey into teaching, have subject expertise to share, or are an experienced qualified tutor ready to lead, we have opportunities at all three levels.
We are on the lookout for multiple SEND tutors covering various specialisms for an extremely exciting period of growth.
This is an entry role for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with SEN but who have no formal teaching qualification or experience. Entry‑level tutors receive guidance, mentoring, and training while gaining hands‑on experience working one‑to‑one with learners. They deliver their own engaging learning experiences, whilst working towards a recognized teaching qualification.
Tutors bring subject expertise and practical experience and should hold a recognised teaching qualification (e.g. AET) and an appropriate vocational qualification. This role focuses on delivering engaging and differentiated sessions that help SEN learners develop personal, vocational, and employability skills. Tutors take responsibility for their own planning and delivery and quality assurance while continuing to develop pedagogical practice through in‑house and external CPD.
Level 3 tutors are fully qualified teachers, holding QTS who lead the design and delivery of high‑quality teaching and learning across a defined curriculum area, acting as curriculum lead. They act as role models within the team, mentor less experienced staff, and contribute to quality assurance and improvement. This role plays a key part in shaping curriculum strategy and ensuring outstanding learner outcomes in line with Skills Centre Plus and awarding organisation standards.
Full details can be found in the Tutor Framework which also includes the person spec.
As soon as a suitable candidate is found for this role we reserve the right to close the job advert ahead of the closing date, so please do not delay in submitting your application.
As part of our commitment to safeguarding, there will be numerous safeguarding checks that form part of the recruitment process including an Enhanced DBS check and you will be required to complete a self‑declaration form at interview stage. Please note this role is also exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and it is an offence to apply for the role if you are barred from regulated activity.
Acis is committed to equality and diversity, is a proud member of Disability Confident, and welcomes applications from any applicant who feels they hold the essential skills to fulfil the role. We recognise that people need flexibility in their role and are happy to discuss flexible working options with the successful candidate in addition to any aid with interviewing that you might need.
