Job Summary

Aspire People is currently recruiting for a passionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join special educational needs (SEN) schools in Redbourn, St Albans. These full-time roles offer the opportunity to support pupils with a range of learning difficulties, including autism spectrum disorder (ASC), ADHD, and profound and speech and language difficulties (SLD0).

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one support or assist with small group interventions for students with ASC, ADHD, and SLD
  • Work closely with teachers and SENCOs to implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets
  • Help students to develop social, emotional, and academic skills through tailored support strategies
  • Provide guidance in managing behavioural challenges in a calm, consistent, and positive manner
  • Support the delivery of sensory, therapeutic, or life skills activities
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, liaising with class teachers and the SEN team regularly
Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs in an SEN school or similar environment (desirable)
  • Strong understanding of autism, ADHD, and SEMH needs, with an ability to tailor support to individual students
  • Calm, patient, and adaptable approach to working with children with complex needs
  • A proactive approach to working within a multidisciplinary team, including teachers, therapists, and support staff
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Availability for full-time work, Monday to Friday (8:30am - 3:30pm)
Desirable
  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
  • Experience with Makaton, PECs, or other alternative communication methods
  • Previous work in specialist settings (e.g., SEN schools, specialist provisions, etc.)
