Overview

Job Opportunity: Support Staff – Special Needs Provision (Young Adults)

Location: Durham

Hours: Flexible – Part-Time (2–3 days) or Full-Time (5 days)

Working Hours: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

We are looking for committed and compassionate individuals to join our specialist provision supporting young adults with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Our learners access a range of vocational courses, some of which are delivered in outdoor environments, so flexibility and a hands-on approach are essential.

About the Role: This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with young adults, supporting their learning, independence, and personal development. You will be part of a dynamic team delivering tailored programmes that include practical, vocational, and outdoor-based activities.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting learners in vocational sessions, both classroom-based and outdoors
  • Promoting independence, engagement, and positive behaviour
  • Assisting with personal care and mobility needs where required
  • Contributing to a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff and external partners
What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)
  • Experience or strong understanding of SEND, including behaviours that challenge
  • A proactive, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Ability to work flexibly across different learning environments
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A DBS covering both the child and adult workforce (or willingness to apply for one)
Working Options
  • Part-Time: 2–3 days per week
  • Full-Time: 5 days per week
  • Hours: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
