Job description

We are seeking to recruit a LAA senior Caseworker/Solicitor to start as soon as possible as a Self Employed lawyer.

The candidate's responsibilities will include:

  1. Undertaking matters which the candidate is competent to conduct having due regard to the policies and procedures defined in our Quality Manual relating to Immigration.
  2. Arranging appointments and attending new, current and former clients and dealing with their queries including:
  3. Obtaining instructions and advising on course(s) of action, length and cost of case (as appropriate).
  4. Assessment of client’s financial means and explanation of Public Funding or Private terms and conditions.
  5. Attending clients at Courts and/or Detention centres.
  6. Drafting and/or dictating correspondence to client, court, solicitors counsel and other third-parties, including Statements, Notices, Applications, and other Legal Forms/Documents.
  7. Instructing counsel, experts, solicitor advocates or other third-parties, reviewing reports and continued liaison as required.
  8. Arranging hearings and conferences.
  9. Obtaining and reviewing evidence and statements.
  10. Negotiation on clients behalf and, liaison with opponents, judges, etc. to obtain most preferable outcome for clients.
  11. Ensuring efficient day-to-day progress of all matters, prioritising work as necessary and keeping the client informed on progress.
  12. Filing documents to client files, dealing with closed files and maintaining the firm’s closed file records.
  13. Compliance with the firm’s policies and procedures.
  14. To ensure that all work carried out meets or exceeds the requirements of the LAA’s Standard Contract, the SRA Code of Conduct and meets Quality Mark standards.
  15. To record all work carried out accurately and appropriately on the firm’s computerised time recording.

Experience:

  • Preferably a Qualified Solicitor
  • 1 year PQE
  • Completed LPC
  • If you are not a qualified solicitor you should have completed a law degree or equivalent qualification
  • Immigration & Asylum – Senior Caseworker or above
