Job description

Our Security and Parking team are seeking pro‑active team players with experience of dealing with members of the public. Transferrable skills from hospitality backgrounds would be considered alongside current security experience or those with a police or military background. You will conduct patrols, respond to incidents, write reports, and enforce the site traffic policy. IT literacy and digital competence will be necessary for receiving and reporting on handheld devices. Your ability to connect and quickly build rapport with individuals to diffuse and deescalate complex situations will ensure our staff, patients and visitors enjoy a safe environment and a positive experience on our sites.

Your ability to communicate clearly with calm confidence will be vital in managing potential confrontations. The ability to put people at ease and make calm, quick, justified decisions with autonomy will be crucial as you may be interacting with individuals with mental health difficulties, dependency, learning difficulties or who are distressed or confused.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • respond to incidents on Trust property including undertaking investigations into suspicious behaviours or criminal activities such as theft and anti‑social behaviour
  • provide a security presence to support clinical staff, attending clinical incidents to provide support and assistance to clinical staff
  • protect Trust property from malicious damage and theft promoting a safe, positive environment to reduce the potential for crime
  • accurately record every incident, gathering all relevant information, and completing detailed reports
  • communicate clearly and effectively with the ability to listen and empathise
  • on a rotational basis, maintain an effective security presence in the Emergency Department (ED) areas, promptly intercepting poor behaviours and ensuring the ED patient service is not impacted or disrupted
  • assist with fire alarm evacuations
  • uphold and enforce the Trust Parking policy
  • respond to every incident with a high sense of urgency, including alarms, violence & aggression and other significant events
  • support clinical staff in detaining patients under the Mental Health Act 2007 and Mental Capacity Act 2005, including lawful use of clinical holding and restraint where necessary
  • ensure the safety, security and welfare of Trust staff, patients and others, and promote a safe, positive environment to reduce crime
  • detect and investigate any criminality on Trust property, keeping a record in pocket notebooks of each incident attended
  • complete specialist training for safer clinical holding and restraint where required
  • conduct the required amount of internal and external patrols every shift, completing site‑specific activities and taskings as required
  • assist with car park cash collections from pay and display machines, issue parking charge notices out of hours, and support car park closures and traffic management
  • ensure all national and local Health & Safety requirements are met and reported, and pursue the Trust's policies in relation to Equal Opportunities and Diversity Legislation
  • support risk management for the Division and the Trust by identifying risks or opportunities, implementing, and maintaining existing controls, contingencies, and actions, and reporting uncontrolled risk to Security management

The position is full‑time, working 37.5 hours per week with shift patterns on a rota basis including days, nights, and weekends.
