Job description

We are seeking an experienced Section Engineer to support the delivery of major civil engineering works on the Net Zero Teesside project-one of the UK's most significant low‑carbon infrastructure schemes. You will play a key technical role, ensuring that construction activities are executed safely, accurately and in accordance with design, specifications, and programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and check all technical information, including drawings and specifications, identifying ambiguities or inconsistencies and raising Technical Queries for resolution.
  • Carry out material take-offs from drawings to support procurement and planning.
  • Ensure Site Engineers fully understand the construction methodologies required for the delivery of civil engineering works.
  • Lead the development and implementation of HSEQ controls for your section of work, ensuring full compliance with project standards.
  • Manage the detailed look‑ahead programme for civil engineering activities, coordinating with planning and delivery teams to maintain progress.
  • Delegate dimensional control activities to Site Engineers and ensure that both Temporary Works and Permanent Works are accurately and consistently set out.
  • Support a culture of technical excellence, safety, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
Ideal Candidate
  • Strong technical background in civil engineering, reinforced concrete, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience in reviewing technical documentation, identifying design issues, and managing technical queries.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and support Site Engineers.
  • Good understanding of HSEQ standards and ability to embed controls into day‑to‑day site activities.
  • Experience working with look‑ahead programmes and coordinating technical delivery.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and problem‑solving skills.
