Job description

Reform UK is seeking a passionate, media-savvy Press Officer to drive our communications in Scotland. You will craft and deliver compelling messages that cut through to Scottish audiences, championing our common-sense policies on immigration, law and order, public services and economic growth. Your work will ensure our vision for a free, proud and prosperous Scotland is heard clearly across print, broadcast and digital channels.

This is a hands‑on role in a fast‑paced environment. You’ll secure impactful coverage, own our Scottish social channels, and help shape creative campaigns - while keeping message discipline and rapid response at the core of everything you do.

Key Responsibilities
Content & Messaging
  • Write, edit and distribute high-impact press releases, op‑eds, statements and media briefings tailored to Scottish audiences.
  • Prepare spokespeople with lines‑to‑take, Q&As and briefing packs ahead of interviews and events.
  • Maintain a consistent Reform UK tone of voice across all Scottish communications.
Media Relations
  • Build and nurture relationships with journalists, editors and producers across Scottish and UK outlets (print, online, radio, TV).
  • Proactively pitch stories, place comment pieces and maximise interview opportunities.
  • Handle inbound media enquiries, including rapid rebuttal and crisis comms when necessary.
Social & Digital
  • Manage Reform UK Scotland’s social media channels (particularly X), creating engaging, shareable content.
  • Work with the national digital team to produce basic graphics/video clips and ensure content is optimised for reach and impact.
  • Monitor online sentiment and engagement to inform content strategy.
Campaigns & Events
  • Collaborate with the national comms team to plan and execute creative media and advertising campaigns relevant to Scotland (e.g. economy, infrastructure, cultural identity).
  • Support press conferences, visits and campaign events across Scotland and occasionally the wider UK.
  • Produce post‑campaign wrap‑ups, coverage reports and lessons learned.
Monitoring & Insight
  • Track Scottish and UK media coverage daily; compile concise reports and insights for senior stakeholders.
  • Keep abreast of developments in Scottish politics, the Scottish Parliament and public opinion to inform proactive messaging.
Person Specification
  • Clear commitment to Reform UK’s mission and values; current Reform UK membership required.
  • Proven experience in a press office, journalism or communications role with demonstrable media results.
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills; able to tailor tone and message for different audiences.
  • Strong understanding of the Scottish (and broader UK) media landscape and news cycles.
  • Confident managing social media channels, particularly for political content on X.
  • Calm under pressure; able to juggle multiple deadlines and respond quickly to breaking stories.
  • Solid grasp of Scottish political and cultural issues, with sensitivity to regional nuances.
  • Experience in political communications or working within a political party/organisation.
  • Knowledge of the Scottish Parliament, devolved policy areas and Scotland’s political environment.
  • Basic design/video skills (e.g. Canva, Adobe, CapCut) to enhance digital content.
  • Persuasive storyteller with strong news judgement.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and message discipline.
  • Organised and reliable, able to prioritise effectively.
  • Resilient, adaptable and solutions‑focused in a high‑pressure setting.
  • Collaborative team player who aligns seamlessly with national and regional comms efforts.
