Job Description
We are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Science Teacher to join our vibrant and supportive team at a well-established Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Croydon. This is a full-time, long-term position starting in January 2026. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and accessible science lessons to students with a wide range of learning needs, including moderate learning difficulties and autism spectrum conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality science lessons to small classes, adapting content to meet the individual needs of students.
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing feedback to support their development and learning.
- Collaborate with the SENCO and other staff members to create tailored learning strategies and individualised education plans (IEPs).
- Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement and well-being.
- Support students in developing key skills in science, encouraging independent thinking and problem-solving.
- Foster a positive and supportive classroom atmosphere, promoting respect, patience, and empathy.
- Participate in professional development and training opportunities to further enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
- Engage with parents/carers, providing regular updates on student progress and learning goals.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- A strong background in science (preferably a degree in a relevant scientific field such as Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).
- Experience working with students with special educational needs, particularly in an SEN school setting, is highly desirable.
- A patient, compassionate, and creative approach to teaching, with a strong commitment to student-centered learning.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and parents.
- A willingness to adapt and employ flexible teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Experience with Differentiated Instruction techniques.
- Knowledge of autism spectrum conditions (ASC), learning disabilities, and strategies for supporting students with complex needs.
- Familiarity with specialist SEN resources and technologies to support learning.
