Job description

V-Recruit are excited to be working in partnership with one of the UK’s most forward‑thinking, recognised and respected Multi‑Academy Trusts to recruit 1 x Catering/Kitchen Manager to work within their Wakefield based secondary academy.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Catering/Kitchen Manager, bringing with it the perks of working within an educational environment, such as 12 weeks holiday per year, sociable hours and a rewarding but satisfying working environment.

Responsibilities
  • To plan, prepare, cook and present food to the standards required.
  • To ensure that the school's reputation for excellence in both food and service is always upheld.
  • To assist in preparing the annual budget, and to achieve and maintain the food cost in accordance with the budget.
  • To maintain budgetary records and ensure that all budgets are adhered to, unless exceptional circumstances arise.
  • To complete all food and equipment ordering, consistently looking at ways of maximising income through effective purchasing through nominated suppliers and creative merchandising.
  • To set objectives and be responsible for the day to day running of the location, including supervising the recruitment and selection process, training, monitoring development and progress of staff.
  • To ensure accurate and efficient financial control.
  • To ensure that all bookkeeping is completed in a timely manner, accurately and efficiently and in line with company procedures.
  • To line‑manage the team of cooks, catering staff and breaktime supervisors, dealing with any issues that arise.
  • To ensure the location meets statutory and company requirements of Health & Safety, Food Safety and Environmental legislation and procedures.
  • To conduct Food Safety and Health & Safety Risk Assessments and ensure that all standards and procedures in relation to Hygiene and Safety are established and maintained in line with company policy.
  • To establish and maintain cleaning schedules.
  • To ensure that all equipment is well maintained and is in good working order, and to make recommendations for renewal and replacement where required.
  • To record and report all accidents within the location, adhering to location and company procedures.

  • Salary: £27,428 to £28,825 per annum
  • 37 hours per week, term time only plus five days
Candidate Requirements
  • A relevant NVQ qualification or equivalent.
  • Level 2 Maths and English qualifications at C or above.
  • Extensive relevant experience.
  • Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene or equivalent.
  • Strong supervisory experience.
  • Ability to display a real passion for food and customer service.
  • Excellent organisational skills, and the ability to plan ahead whilst staying calm under pressure.
  • Demonstrate an analytical approach to problem solving, and good negotiation skills.
  • Financially and commercially astute.
  • Driving licence is very desirable, as some travel to alternative sites, for relief and training purposes.
