Overview

Senior Clinical Fellow in Orthopaedics ST3+ Upper Limb

Applications are invited for the above post, available with immediate effect until August 2026. Applications with a start date of February 2026 will also be considered.

This post is aimed at Senior Trainees (post-FRCS) who wish to gain further experience in the subspecialty of shoulder surgery. The post will be based at the Elective Orthopaedic Unit at Woodend Hospital, Aberdeen. You will be given ample opportunity to develop your surgical and clinical skills, as well as protected time for audit and research. There are no on-call requirements for these posts, although participation in the trauma on-call rota may be available on request at nearby Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will work closely with four elective shoulder Consultants and Physiotherapy colleagues. Opportunities for independent operating are likely to be available to suitably qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include developing and applying skills in shoulder surgery, contributing to elective and study-related work, and engaging in audit and research activities. The post will involve collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and potential opportunities for independent operating for suitably qualified candidates.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC (licence to practise must be in place prior to starting in post).
  • Knowledge and understanding of the UK health system.
  • These posts do not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.
