The Role

As a Safety Engineer, you’ll be instrumental in supporting projects across the dockyard - from existing nuclear and radiological facilities to the design of brand new infrastructure for the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet. You’ll help ensure safety critical operations are compliant, effective and future ready. This is a career-defining opportunity to contribute to national defence while growing your expertise in safety engineering and design.

Day-to-day, you’ll play a key role in developing and updating safety cases and delivering technical guidance to Plant Managers to ensure safe and compliant safety-critical operations.

  • Supporting hazard identification activities through structured reviews, checklists, and inspections.
  • Conducting safety assessments using structured and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Contributing to the design of nuclear and radiological facilities, ensuring risks are reduced to ALARP.
  • Writing and reviewing technical documentation to support safety, compliance, and operational effectiveness.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Safety Engineer:

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrable experience in safety engineering and design.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interface effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience working within safety engineering.
