Qualifications

About the role

Are you passionate about health and safety in a cutting‑edge research environment? The UCL Cancer Institute is seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Safety Advisor to join our professional services team. This is a pivotal role supporting world‑class cancer research through expert safety guidance and leadership.

As Safety Advisor, you will :

  • Take a key advisory role for laboratory researchers and lead on the implementation and continuous improvement of safety policies and procedures.
  • Act as Departmental Safety Officer and Lead Biological Agent Peer Reviewer.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including UCL Safety Services, Estates, and regulatory bodies.
  • Support laboratory operations and building management to ensure safe, compliant, and fit‑for‑purpose facilities.
  • Deliver safety inductions and training, co‑chair the Institute Safety Committee, and contribute to UCL’s Target safety management system.
About you

We are looking for someone with :

  • A BSc in a science discipline (preferably Biological) or equivalent experience.
  • A relevant Health and Safety qualification (NEBOSH certificate or diploma).
  • Experience working to Containment Level 2 standards in a biological research setting.
  • Strong knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation, GM regulations, and ideally experience with radioisotopes or X‑ray equipment.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and influencing skills.
