Job description

Join your local policing team and help build strong, positive relationships with the people around you. By volunteering, you will play a vital role in providing reassurance, reducing fear of crime and keeping everyone informed about what is happening locally. Our Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) in Spelthorne is looking to recruit volunteers who want to make a difference by helping keep their local communities informed of policing activity and connected through regular engagement. If you can spare four hours a week (or more) between the hours of 0700 and 1700 Monday to Saturday, we would like to welcome you to the team!

  • Building positive relationships with local communities and helping to challenge misconceptions about policing
  • Using online platforms and social media to share updates and promote the work of the SNT
  • Supporting and coordinating community events such as drop‑in centres, 'meet the beat' sessions and partnership days
  • Connecting with local watch schemes like Neighbourhood Watch and assisting with reviewing local crime information to create clear, informative community updates.

As a Safer Neighbourhood Volunteer, community engagement will be at the heart of your role. You will need strong communication skills and the ability to connect with people through a variety of channels, including social media. Working closely with the team, you will bring excellent organisational skills to plan and coordinate key tasks and events within local communities. You should also feel confident using ICT as the role involves working with Microsoft Office programmes, incident reporting systems and community messaging platforms.
