A regional police force in the United Kingdom is seeking trainee Forensic Collision Investigators (FCIs) to attend to fatal incidents and collect evidence for reports. The successful candidates will complete a City & Guilds assured qualification during training, located at a dedicated center in Wakefield. After training, FCIs will work from bases including Melton and Thirsk, engaging in an operational shift pattern. Competitive salary and benefits include generous annual leave and pension schemes.
The role of an operational FCI is to attend the scene of fatal, and potentially fatal, collisions, as well as other vehicle related incidents. Using cutting edge techniques and technology, the role also involves collecting and collating evidence, and producing reports for presentation to Coroner's Courts, the Criminal Justice System (CJS) and related third parties.
Applicants should be aware that it is not always possible to carry out adequate vetting checks on persons who have not been resident within the UK for the last five years. Therefore, where this applies, applicants may be refused because it was not possible to vet them to the appropriate standard. For a detailed description of the Competency and Values levels required, please refer to the Competency and values framework (CVF) | College of Policing (this link may be copied and pasted into your browser). This document will assist you in completing the Evidence of Achievement section of the application form. Please note: the Evidence of Achievement section will not be visible until the employment section has been completed.
West Yorkshire Police, the lead Force for the Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Scientific Support Services (RSSS), is looking to recruit trainee Forensic Collision Investigators (FCI). Part of West Yorkshire Police, the RSSS provides forensic collision investigation services to the Yorkshire and Humber Police Forces. FCIs work regionally but operate from one of four bases: Melton (near Hull), Sheffield, Thirsk, and Wakefield.
The service covers the whole of the Yorkshire and Humber region (bisected by three of the north\'s busiest motorways) - an area covering close to 5000 square miles with a population of over 5 million. Our experts attend scenes ranging from single vehicle collisions on country lanes, to multi-vehicle incidents on motorways.
Additionally, you will have the physical and emotional resilience to deal with protracted hours at outdoor scenes, which at times may be distressing.
During training, you will be located at the Wakefield base where RSSS is equipped with a dedicated training centre for FCIs. Upon initial appointment, as a trainee, you will be invited to attend the training centre to complete a City & Guilds assured qualification in forensic collision investigation. Once you have completed the initial training programme, you will be based in our operational bases, located in Melton (near Hull) or Thirsk, on an operational shift pattern (covering on-call and night time working). As part of a career progression scheme, those appointed will be expected to develop to an advanced level. Advanced level FCIs attract a salary within the range £40,383 to £42,612 per annum with a potential additional shift enhancement payment of up to 20% and an additional weekend working allowance (where applicable).
Employment benefits include a generous annual leave allowance, which increases with service, and a Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
