Job description
Overview

This is an opportunity within 42 Commando Royal Marines, offering varied and rewarding responsibilities. The role involves operation and day-to-day running of the Motor Fuel Installation, with mentoring, training and fully funded courses available (some residential). The department comprises Royal Marine Commandos, sailors and soldiers from the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force, plus civilian staff across 9 units in the UK. Navy Command provides an open, flexible and supportive work environment where Civil Servants and Armed forces personnel work together in a range of disciplines.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and store vehicles spare parts, plant and associated equipment; order replacement items using Logistical Framework methods in line with MOD standards, current technical Publications and HSE regulations.
  • Primary MTFI tasks: issue and receipt of Fuel & Lubes; maintain cleanliness, safety and security of Fuel & Lubes point, forecourt, office and stores areas.
  • Take delivery of road diesel and ensure safe completion following HSE regulations; maintain accountability measures; complete End of Month fuel capture.
  • Carry out Daily DIPS to fuel tanks and recordkeeping for accounting; report inconsistencies promptly.
  • Conduct Weekly Fire Alarm Tests and safety equipment checks of the POL Building.
  • Primary G1098 Storekeeper tasks: account for tooling and specialist test equipment; manage stock of high-demand consumable parts; maintain MJDI Management Information System; manage workshop lifting equipment.
  • Secondary tasks: ensure workshop stores activities comply with the Defence Logistical Framework; maintain COSL; ensure COSHH compliance; occasional collection/delivery of tooling and stores to/from military or civilian sites; adhere to health and safety legislation; perform other duties as directed by the chain of command.
  • Training may require attendance at residential courses; additional out-of-hours work and detached duties may be required but will be recompensed appropriately.
Apprenticeships and Training

Apprenticeships normally last between 12 months and 3 years, depending on the level. Apprenticeships are open to anyone; successful candidates can discuss development options with their manager when in post. Roles offer opportunities to learn, develop and progress within the Department and across the Civil Service.

Essential and Desirable Requirements
  • Essential: Good IT skills for daily computer system use; previous experience in a logistics/store environment.
  • Desirable: NVQ Level 3 in Logistical Operations Management or equivalent; Full UK Driving Licence (Cat B+C and Hyster Fork-Lift); experience managing lifting equipment; experience using MJDI; previous Defence Logistics experience; manual handling training.
Working Arrangements and Benefits

Salary and benefits include a salary of £23,583 with the MOD contributing £6,831 to the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. The role does not offer relocation expenses, and external recruits to the MOD new to the Civil Service are subject to a six-month probation period.
