The Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is wishes to appoint a post CCT Complex Spine Fellow in Neurosurgery for a period of 12 months. This is a Royal College of Surgery approved fellowship program. The post will be ideally suited to a senior trainee (Post CCT) wishing to undertake a sub-speciality fellowship in complex spinal surgery. Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the busiest elective neurosurgical spinal units in the country and provides 24/7 complex spinal emergency on call service and is a Major Trauma Centre. There is no separate orthopaedic service which makes neurosurgery the referring point for a variety of spinal pathologies.

The post holder will be exposed to all aspects of spinal surgery (excluding paediatrics) including posterior, lateral and anterior approaches, intraoperative spinal neuromonitoring, spinal oncology and Minimally Invasive Techniques. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a unit with 6 dedicated consultant complex spinal surgeons from both Orthopaedic and Spinal Orthopaedic backgrounds as well as 6 other consultant neurosurgeons with various subspeciality interests. All Consultants do elective degenerative spinal work. This is a recognised and approved by the Royal College of Surgeons England Post. This post does not hold a National Training Number and longer appointments are unlikely to be arranged.

Main duties of the job

The Neurosurgical Department provides a regional elective and acute service across both sites of the Trust. The Senior Spinal Fellow will be expected to provide neurosurgical on call cover at registrar level on 1 in 8-12 full shift rota at the Hull Royal Infirmary site and be actively involved in research with an opportunity to register for a higher degree.
