Overview
We’re working with a cutting-edge space technology company who is preparing for their first satellite mission and entering a key growth phase.
Their focus is on building next-generation satellites capable of operating in ultra-low Earth orbit (~200 km), a feat made possible by a proprietary air-breathing propulsion system.
To support this, we’re looking to find an RF Systems Architect to take full ownership of the satellite’s RF design. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where your expertise will directly influence system performance and mission success.
This position is based onsite 5 days a week, and due to the nature of the work, will suit someone comfortable with a fast-paced, high-commitment environment.
Key Responsibilities
- RF System Design & Integration: End-to-end responsibility for the satellite’s RF architecture, covering both uplink and downlink chains for TT&C and payload communication.
- Link Budget Development: Define and maintain comprehensive link budgets across all phases of operation, especially in low and ultra-low Earth orbit regimes.
- Antenna Development: Design, simulate, or select antennas optimised for small satellite platforms, balancing performance, footprint, and environmental constraints.
- Testing & Validation: Lead RF test strategy including compatibility testing, over-the-air validation, and final pre-flight verification.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with avionics, thermal, mechanical, and systems teams to ensure robust RF integration across the platform.
Required Skills & Experience
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Aerospace, or similar with a focus on RF/microwave systems.
- Experience working on RF systems within the satellite, aerospace, or communications sectors.
- Strong understanding of RF components such as LNAs, filters, PAs, and mixers.
- Proficient in tools such as CST, HFSS, ADS, MATLAB.
- Familiarity with SDR platforms and relevant protocols (CCSDS, S-band, X-band, UHF).
Why apply for the RF Systems Architect position?
- Ownership & Autonomy: As RF Systems Architect, you'll be the technical authority on RF systems from design through to launch.
- Technology Leadership: Be part of a mission that’s redefining satellite operations through breakthrough propulsion and ultra-low orbit deployment.
- Competitive Package: Up to £85,000 salary plus equity options in a company with significant technical upside.
- Strong Benefits: Private healthcare (including dental and optical), annual medical check-ups, and more.
