Retinal Screener / Grader

To contribute to the efficient and effective management of the Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (DESP). The post holder will provide a service to help prevent the development of blindness through the early detection and treatment of diabetic retinopathy by providing a high quality systematic screening and grading service throughout Cumbria.

To deliver screening clinics within the locality and also hold a full UK driving license (manual vehicle), to be able to transport the mobile screening equipment to various clinic sites.

To perform detailed retina image analysis to identify any diabetic eye disease and follow service policies for appropriate outcomes.

If not already obtained, the post requires the completion of the Level 3 diploma in Health Screening, to be completed within 18 months of commencement.

Main duties of the job

The role involves delivering diabetic eye screening through Routine Digital Screening, Digital Surveillance, which includes the use of Optical Coherence Tomography imaging. This is obtained through specialist equipment, where full training will be provided.

The role also involves training and competencies to be able to analyse images of the retina and identify diabetic eye disease as well as other eye conditions.
