Cleaners are responsible for maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety, and presentation across residential, commercial, and healthcare properties. This role ensures that environments remain safe, welcoming, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Residential Properties
- Clean kitchens, bathrooms, and communal lounges
- Maintain stairwells, corridors, and entryways to ensure safety and accessibility
- Report maintenance issues (e.g., leaks, broken fixtures) promptly
- Commercial Buildings
- Clean offices, meeting rooms, retail spaces, and reception areas
- Sanitize high‑touch surfaces (door handles, desks, shared equipment)
- Restock consumables (toilet paper, soap, paper towels)
- Hospital & Clinical Areas
- Clean patient rooms, wards, operating theatres, ICUs, and treatment areas
- Disinfect high‑touch surfaces using hospital‑grade disinfectants and PPE
- Safely handle and dispose of clinical waste and sharps
- Replenish hygiene supplies (soap, sanitiser, paper towels)
- Follow strict infection control protocols and NHS standards
- Specialist Services
- Deep cleaning after outbreaks or contamination
- Terminal cleaning (post‑patient discharge)
- Laundry and linen handling (in some contracts)
- Scheduled deep cleans of kitchens, plant rooms, ventilation systems, and restricted areas

- NHS Cleaning Standards (UK)
- HTM 01‑05 and NHS Estate Guidelines
- CQC requirements
- COSHH regulations for chemical handling
- Safeguarding and confidentiality protocols
- Enhanced DBS checks may be required for hospital work
Requirements and Qualifications
- Attention to detail and commitment to high standards
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, products, and equipment
- Understanding of health, safety, and safeguarding practices
- Good communication skills for reporting issues
- Previous cleaning experience in residential, commercial, or hospital settings preferred
- COSHH training and awareness of health & safety regulations
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or night shifts
- Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks (lifting, bending, standing for long periods)
- Standard DBS required (Enhanced DBS for hospital work)
- Decent standard of English to communicate and complete training
- Must be a UK resident with right to work (no sponsorships or visas provided), Disability Confident
