Job description

Symphony Senior Living Kanata is currently seeking a Resident Program Director with a caring heart. We will teach you our systems, programs, and philosophy. However, we cannot teach compassion and empathy, so you will demonstrate those qualities during the interview process.

Symphony Senior Living is a leading provider of quality senior services in Canada; we provide private pay services to residents in our beautiful communities. We offer care to our residents until the end of life. We are a true alternative to a Long-Term Care facility – not a medical institution, but a home for seniors of various ability levels. We serve both our residents and their loved ones.

If you love working with seniors and find the challenge of connecting and serving those with physical and memory care needs rewarding, this could be the position for you! We require someone compassionate and driven to provide a high-quality, interactive, residential environment for residents, their families, and the team.

Job Requirements:

Reporting to the CEO, the Resident Program Director manages the overall operations of all resident ADLs and social programs. The primary responsibility is to meet the direct care and life enrichment needs of residents and families. The RPD supervises Resident Specialists, Resident Specialists with Meds (UCP), and Housekeeping staff, and champions the Moments and Oasis Programs. The RPD works closely with the Wellness Coordinator and Community Relations Coordinator to ensure quality care, smooth move-ins, and customer satisfaction.

Resident Care Programs:
  • Participate in resident assessment and care planning, collaborating with the Wellness Coordinator and Executive Director based on family interviews and ongoing evaluations.
  • Develop and implement individualized service plans (ISPs) for residents in coordination with the Wellness Coordinator.
  • Monitor and update ISPs to ensure resident needs are met.
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding residents' needs and recommended services.
  • Plan family-style dining and hydration with the Dining Services Coordinator.
  • Maintain the Oasis and Moments Program Neighbourhoods, including life skill stations, program kits, and memory boxes, and train team members in their use.
  • Ensure safety and environmental standards are upheld.
  • Assist residents with ADLs as needed and cover shortages or emergencies.
  • Establish and maintain communication with residents' families.
Department Team Management:
  • Manage direct reports: Resident Specialists, RS with Meds, RPNs, and Team Leads.
  • Coordinate with leadership to communicate residents' needs.
  • Create department schedules and oversee payroll.
  • Ensure staffing levels meet the variable staffing guide and competency requirements.
  • Recruit, assign duties, monitor performance, and oversee discipline processes.
  • Provide orientation and ongoing training for new wellness team members.
Requirements:
  • 3-5 years management experience in a residential care setting.
  • Proficient in Word and Outlook.
  • Up-to-date Standard First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Vulnerable sector clearance and clean police record.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Covid vaccination (minimum 2 doses) and ability to work through pandemics/outbreaks.
  • Ability to work with animals; allergies cannot be accommodated.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle.
  • Physical ability to walk, sit, stand, squat, and carry (3-15 kg).
  • Ability to perform various movements and dexterities required for the role.
  • Strong communication skills and memory capabilities.
Job Qualifications:
  • Compassion, common sense, and empathy.
  • Strong team orientation.
  • Flexible work style and positive approach to change.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license.
  • Licensed and in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses.
  • Availability to work every second weekend and one evening or night shift every 30 days.
Additional Information:
  • Symphony is an equal opportunity employer.
  • This is a non-union position.
  • Must pass a vulnerable sector background check.
  • Ability to work with animals; discretion regarding tattoos, piercings, and external body decorations is required due to residents' dementia levels.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Good physical health required for lifting, sitting, standing, and walking.

Your cover letter should explain your interest in the position, how your education and experience make you a suitable candidate, and your plans for the first 30 days on the job. A cover letter is mandatory to be considered.
