Job description
The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for an experienced and lab‑savvy Research Technician to join our team based in Cambridge, UK. In this position you’ll join a laboratory‐based group responsible for three key areas: laboratory management, operation of Bioassay Development Mammalian Tissue Culture Suite, and maintaining team compliance.

This role will be a full‑time temporary (18‑month FTC) position based in a brand‑new facility at the customer site – The Discovery Centre, Bio‑Medical Campus in Cambridge. Working hours: Core business hours.

The Team

You’ll join a close‑knit team of four scientists who are part of the Bioassay Development Group. The group’s main responsibility is assay development for sample testing, as well as maintenance of laboratories by managing supplies, functioning equipment, and maintaining the tissue culture suite, cell stocks, inventories, and provision of cultured cells for assays. You’ll belong to our Lab and Production Services department, which supports large pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry.

What we’re looking for
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a life‑science discipline, or equivalent experience of at least one year in a hands‑on laboratory role.
  • Experience: Theoretical and practical knowledge of mammalian cell culturing.
  • Experience: Previous working experience in a life‑science laboratory environment.
  • Experience: Knowledge and understanding of Good Laboratory Standards (GLS).
  • Experience: Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience: Good time‑management skills and the ability to flex and handle multiple responsibilities and tasks on a regular basis.
  • Experience: Excellent organization, prioritization and planning skills.

  • Maintain mammalian cell line cultures and frozen stocks.
  • Review and prepare data from conducted experiments.

  • Plan future experiments based on customer deadlines and needs.
