Job description

We are seeking a Research Scientist for our quantum algorithms team in London or Cambridge, UK.

Our team leads the development, implementation, simulation, and application of quantum algorithms for computational problems of both scientific and practical relevance.

In this role, you will contribute to the design of novel quantum algorithms and to the development of techniques aimed at reducing algorithmic overheads for execution on Quantinuum’s hardware. You will also be responsible for estimating end-to-end resource requirements under realistic hardware constraints. This research includes the development of new techniques and quantum computational models aimed at reducing circuit depth and making quantum circuits shallower, as well as the scalable co-design of algorithms with our hardware, including early fault‑tolerant protocols and error correction or detection primitives.

Our team members regularly publish scientific papers and present their results at leading conferences. In this role, you will work in a collaborative environment and contribute to advancing our state-of-the-art quantum computing stack. You will also engage with our academic and industry partners.

Key responsibilities:
  • Conduct research on new computational models and techniques to reduce the circuit depth of quantum algorithms
  • Develop and implement novel quantum algorithms integrated with early fault‑tolerant protocols and error correction or detection primitives
  • Contribute to end‑to‑end resource estimation of quantum algorithms under realistic hardware constraints
  • Communicate scientific results internally across teams and externally through publications and conference presentations
Requirements:
  • PhD in a relevant field (physics, mathematics, computer science etc.)
  • Research experience in quantum algorithms, along with demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas: quantum algorithm design and optimization, realistic noise models of quantum hardware, quantum error correction, or (partially) fault‑tolerant protocols
What we value
  • Demonstrated research track record via publications in a relevant field
  • Deep knowledge of quantum computing and quantum algorithm design
  • Hands‑on experience with implementing quantum algorithms on simulators or hardware
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Programming skills in a high‑level language such as Python and relevant tools such as pytket, Qiskit etc.
What is in it for you?

Working alongside a highly talented team, with leading names in the quantum computing industry. We offer a highly competitive package, equity, 28 days of paid holiday (in addition to public holidays), a workplace pension, a positive approach to flexible working and enhanced parental and adoption benefits.
