Join us in championing the power of planning

Planning is everywhere right now - housing, high streets, transport, climate action. If you're as passionate about these issues as we are, we'd love you to join our team and help us connect with planners who are shaping our communities every day.

About the RTPI

We champion planning that creates inclusive, sustainable places where communities thrive. Our 27,000+ members worldwide trust us to support their careers, shape policy, and maintain the highest professional standards. We're the only UK body that awards Chartered status to planners - and we're proud of the difference our members make.

What you'll do

You’ll be the beating heart of our West Midlands region, connecting members and building our planning community. Working closely with our volunteer committee, you’ll help deliver our strategy through events that inspire, educate and bring people together.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Managing regional events that strengthen our membership base
  • Delivering CPD programmes that advance careers
  • Creating networking opportunities that spark collaboration
  • Supporting our volunteer committees who make everything possible
  • Communicating with members, stakeholders and partners across the region
What we're looking for

You're someone who gets things done with a smile. You have solid event management experience and strong IT skills, plus the ability to juggle multiple priorities without breaking a sweat. Most importantly, you genuinely care about delivering great experiences for our members.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Event management experience that shows you can bring people together
  • Strong communication skills and a natural customer focus
  • The ability to influence and inspire others
  • Comfort with marketing and events platforms
  • An interest in planning or the built environment (helpful but not essential)
  • Event marketing qualifications (a bonus, not a must-have)
Why you'll love working here

This is a homebased role. You’ll collaborate with passionate volunteers, connect with fellow regional staff, and work across our entire Institute family.

We’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive. Our positive, supportive environment actively helps employees grow professionally, and we’re serious about equality, diversity and inclusion.

Ready to help shape the future of planning? We can’t wait to meet you.
