A community healthcare provider in Bolton is seeking a full-time Receptionist to join its team. The successful candidate will provide first-line contact for patients, manage appointments, and ensure efficient operations within a busy GP surgery. The role requires excellent communication skills, proficiency in IT, and previous customer service experience. Knowledge of EMIS Web and GP reception experience are desirable. This position offers a permanent contract and involves working across multiple locations within Bolton.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Bolton Community Practice team. We are a busy GP surgery with four sites across Bolton delivering GP services to a population of over 15,000 patients. We are an EMIS Web practice. Applicants must be flexible to cover annual leave and sickness when necessary.
Successful candidates will be required to work Saturday mornings 09:00 - 13:00 on a rota basis.
Responsibilities include: providing first‑line contact for patients on behalf of the practice and dealing with their requests in a courteous and efficient manner; contributing to the delivery of a range of services for patients; handling inbound and outbound calls; booking appointments, referrals, new patient registrations; processing prescriptions; summarising/read coding; handling incoming and outgoing mail.

Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way. Provide general assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone. Reception tasks include answering telephone calls and dealing with face‑to‑face enquiries, politely greeting patients and visitors, scheduling appointments, checking patients in, dealing with all requests in an efficient and courteous manner, screening enquiries for doctors and medical staff, registering new patients, explaining the practice procedures to new patients, accurately collecting information and personal details, updating the surgery’s computer system with appointments and personal details, receiving urine and blood samples and sending them off to hospital laboratories, chasing up appointments with hospitals or other healthcare professionals, contacting patients to pass on test results/messages as instructed by medical professionals, arranging prescriptions, maintaining a clean reception and waiting area, opening post, scanning and forwarding it onto the relevant parties, writing letters and correspondence on behalf of the surgery and medical staff, opening and locking up the surgery, and covering colleagues during times of annual leave.
