Raw Material Technologist

Location: Central Belt, Scotland (site-based)
Hours: Standard working hours are 40 hours per week, typically 8.30 am – 5 pm with a 30‑minute lunch break, Monday – Friday

Our client is a market‑leading food manufacturing group seeking an experienced Raw Material Technologist to join their team.

As a technical expert in raw materials, you’ll oversee the validation of all new raw materials and support departmental leadership with raw material specifications. You’ll manage raw material non‑conformances and lead troubleshooting investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and effective, sustainable preventative actions are implemented.

In this role, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Site supplier and raw material approval, ensuring raw materials and suppliers are fully approved before use within the business. Maintenance of supplier and raw material information.
  • Maintenance of supply chain information. Ensuring any changes are fully approved and communicated to the business.
  • Creating, maintaining and supporting the team on customer specifications in various 3rd‑party systems, ensuring they are accurate and available, both in customers and our own internal systems.
  • Supporting with all aspects of document control for the Technical function and other relevant departments within the business.
  • Audit Compliance – assisting the Manager as required.
  • Timely administration and maintenance of the raw material database, including service suppliers, ensuring integrity and accuracy.
  • Creating and maintaining up‑to‑date records in the Quality Attributes System.
  • Receipt and administration of Consumer Complaints, as well as maintaining and reporting management information to monitor trends, identify and address recurring issues regularly.
  • Maintaining product testing database and various schedules, including nutritional, chemical and other contaminants and preparing results for the review and approval by the Manager.
  • Supporting the management and maintenance of the site’s internal audit systems.
  • Assisting in threat/vulnerability assessments and horizon scanning as required.
  • Closely liaising with several other departments in order to fulfil the role.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience required
Desired
  • A third‑level qualification (diploma or degree) in Food Science or a relevant subject would be advantageous.
  • Experience in a similar role gained in food manufacturing (FMCG), preferably with a major retail customer would be advantageous.
  • Internal Auditor training and experience.
Essential
  • A good understanding of legislation and business systems is required to ensure food safety for the consumer is met at all times.
  • Excellent knowledge and significant experience of relevant IT systems, including MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Fast and accurate typing skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrable track record of delivering a high standard of work to deadlines and ability to work under pressure.
  • Good communication, both verbal and written.
  • Take ownership and accountability to achieve the required standards with a positive demeanour

You’ll bring a proven track record of working with packaging and raw materials from a technical perspective, ideally supported by a degree (or equivalent qualification) in Food Science, Packaging, or a related field.
