Job Overview

RangerOne of the East Midlands' top 10 visitor attractions, ghostly Calke Abbey is a high‑performing property. The unique visitor experience gives a vivid portrayal of a decaying country house, with the property's interiors preserved but not restored. The team is passionate and committed to the property and maintains exceptional standards of conservation. The newly refurbished restaurant serves local and seasonal produce, including organically reared meat from the estate. You will protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery, pass on knowledge to encourage visitors to love the area, talk to them, ensure conservation work is of the highest standard, and build community relationships while proudly representing the Trust.

Core Responsibilities
  • Protect and improve habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery.
  • Pass on knowledge to visitors, encouraging them to appreciate the area.
  • Ensure conservation work is of the highest standard on site and during outdoor experiences.
  • Build community relationships and represent the Trust.
Minimum Criteria
  • Ability to carry out physical tasks to protect and improve land, habitats and access.
  • ’envie to help visitors understand and enjoy the place and its conservation work.
  • Understanding of safety procedures and the ability to help others stay safe.
  • Experience working well with colleagues and supporting volunteers.
  • Capability to organise work and use tools, time and materials responsibly.
  • Awareness of how to help the property run well and support its long‑term future.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
  • Practical experience in conservation work to protect and improve habitats and landscapes.
  • Ability to talk to visitors about the work and its importance.
  • Hard‑working and willing to learn.
  • Ability to work safely, using risk assessments and following guidelines.
  • Experience managing land, access and conservation, and working outdoors.
  • Ability to use machinery and equipment, including relevant certificates.
