Overview

Royal Surrey Cancer Centre is focused on providing excellent patient pathways and patient-centred care. The centre is based in Guildford with a satellite site at the East Surrey Hospital in Redhill. This role may require you to work occasionally at the satellite centre to ensure coverage of service.

We require you to be enthusiastic, friendly and hard working with excellent communication skills, and have the ability to manage your time, plan and prioritise your work.

You will be required to work in a team and make decisions within your scope of practice. You must have a clear understanding of patient confidentiality and ensure that this is maintained both in and out of the workplace.

Main Duties

The purpose of this role is to support clinical staff members in the care and administration of patients undergoing radiotherapy, working with Medical, Radiographic, Physics and Administrative colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide practical support to patients and their carers during their visit to the department.
  • Assist in clinical duties related to the running of clinics, supporting theatre sessions, chaperoning, restocking and locating patient documentation.
  • Assist in administrative duties related to clinics, the delivery of Radiotherapy and CT scanning.
  • Participate in supporting staff and students.
  • Work flexibly to meet the demands of the role and be physically capable of spending some of the day on your feet and assisting in the moving and handling of patients.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Good standard of general education to A-level.
  • GC(S)E/equivalent English Language Grade C or above.
  • GC(S)E/equivalent Maths Grade C or above.
  • Previous experience of a healthcare setting.
  • Confident standard of computer literacy (training will be provided).
    Understanding of legislation concerning radiation and other safety hazards, the implications of the Data Protection Act and the need to maintain patient and staff confidentiality.
  • Previous NHS experience (desirable).
  • A good understanding of NHS / other administrative systems (desirable).
  • Understanding of data protection & confidentiality issues (desirable).
Training & Development

Attain the Trust’s Care Certificate (3 weeks) and receive additional training in venepuncture, assisting in theatre and mandatory Trust training.

Contract and Compensation
  • Permanent part‑time contract.
  • Salary £26,240 to £27,928 per annum (pro rata) including High Cost Area Supplement.
  • Band 3.
Working Pattern and Location

Part‑time, based at Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford (GU2 7XX). Some cover may be required at Redhill.
