Job Summary

An opportunity has arisen for a reliable clinical and administrative assistant to join the Radiology Team at Kettering General Hospital. The role will involve training specific to Nuclear Medicine and completion of a competency assessment to aid Radiographers in the Nuclear Medicine Department.

Responsibilities
  • Welcoming patients to the department.
  • Assisting patients with dressing, undressing, toilet facilities and chaperoning, ensuring privacy and dignity.
  • Assisting the radiographer during examinations and preparing equipment.
  • Supporting patients during procedures and handling post‑procedure care.
  • Assisting Radiographers and Radiologists during Ultrasound examinations.
  • Participating in contamination monitoring and daily camera checks in Nuclear Medicine.
  • Distributing, collecting and analysing Nuclear Medicine TLDs.
  • Ordering radioisotopes weekly and managing orders.
  • Checking radiopharmaceutical doses under supervision, and completing in‑house dose checking training.
  • Completing in‑house fire officer training and acting as departmental fire officer.
  • Booking appointments and maintaining the appointment diary and waiting lists.
  • Speaking to patients on the telephone, answering queries and addressing special needs.
  • Using the Radiology Information System for administrative duties and liaising with Consultants and Radiologists.
  • Maintaining the general tidiness of the reception area, checking stock levels and cleaning clinical areas.
  • Participating in Ultrasound and X‑Ray out‑of‑hour rotas to provide 24/7 cover when required.
  • Attending mandatory and departmental training sessions.
  • Following hospital and departmental standard operating procedures and actively participating in service improvement meetings.
Essential Qualifications
  • Educated in numeracy and literacy to National Level 2 / GCSE level or equivalent.
  • Standard knowledge of healthcare procedures and practices through NVQ3 in health and social care or equivalent.
  • ECDL qualified (or equivalent) to use Word, Excel and/or PowerPoint.
Essential Knowledge and Experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously.
Desirable
  • Experience as a Healthcare Support Worker in an acute NHS environment.
  • Experience working with radiation within a hospital setting.
Essential Skills
  • Clear communication of complex or sensitive information to patients, staff and relatives, providing empathy and reassurance.
  • Effective verbal and written documentation of patient care.
  • Capability to adapt own practice, offer suggestions for improvement and engage with research and audit.
  • Decision‑making regarding patient care using departmental SOPs.
  • Provision of basic nursing care procedures when necessary and recognising when a qualified healthcare professional is required.
