The Role

An exciting career opportunity has arisen for a Site Quantity Surveyor / Planner to join our highly successful global company within the Technologies Division, reporting to the UK Services Director. The position will mainly be based at our client site in Somerset where we have two high profile projects to install operational and radiological protection equipment (RPI).

This is a key role providing vital commercial management across our projects.

Key Responsibilities :
Quantity Surveying Duties :
  • Prepare cost estimates, budgets and bills of quantities for our installation projects
  • Monitor and control project costs ensuring accurate forecasting and reporting
  • Assess and certify subcontractor payments and variations
  • Prepare and submit interim and final valuations and reports
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and manage claims / disputes
Planning Duties :
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using planning software (e.g. Primavera P6, MS Project)
  • Monitor progress against the baseline program and update schedules regularly
  • Identify and mitigate potential delays and risks through proactive planning
  • Coordinate with site teams to ensure alignment of resources and timelines
  • Produce progress reports and communicate updates to stakeholders
Candidate Requirements :
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts (e.g. NEC, JCT)
  • Proficiency in cost management and planning software
  • Proven experience on large‑scale projects, ideally within the nuclear / construction industry
  • Specific Client Security Clearance (or willingness to attain)
  • Strong IT skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication skills and stakeholder engagement capabilities
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills
  • Strong communication and negotiation abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Travel to various sites (UK and occasionally overseas) will be required to complete other tasks as required.

The Person

The key skills and qualities of a Site Quantity Surveyor / Planner are :

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or related field
  • Professional membership (RICS or equivalent) desirable
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in quantity surveying and / or planning roles
  • Experience of working on nuclear licensed sites EDF, Sellafield, NRS, Dounreay would be an advantage
  • High work standards – qualitatively, demonstrates initiative and motivation
  • Essential to be British or EU passport holder as security clearance will be required for this post
  • Native English speaker
  • Good interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Potential for undergoing security vetting to SC level
