A little more about your role…


  • As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Pre and post contract commercial aspects of projects ranging in size and complexity.

  • Have proven organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.

  • Have a good understanding of Method of Measurement for Highway Works and CESMM.

  • Have a good understanding of the ECC forms of Contract.


Clerk of Works


  • Reviewing design, drawings, specifications, employer's requirements, contractor's proposals and other technical and contract documents as necessary.

  • Regularly visiting site to inspect the construction work

  • Providing written reports on the quality of construction on site following the site inspections.

  • Attending site meetings and any other such meetings as are called for the management of the Contract (e.g. pre-start meetings, monthly progress and design co-ordination meetings, etc).

  • Attending pre-handover and handover quality inspections ('Snagging' and 'Back snagging' etc) and preparing and issuing of appropriate schedules and reports.

  • Attending End of Defects Liability Period Inspections and preparing and issuing of appropriate schedules and reports.

  • Desirable - fulfilling the Supervisor duties as described by the NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract.

This an opportunity to join our Local Government Highways and Bridges team based in Exeter, Devon.


We provide highways design and consultancy services for local authority clients within the South West. We are passionate about supporting our Local Authority clients to deliver improvements for local communities, prioritising Active and Healthy Travel modes and caring about the provision of mobility across the transport network.


Our team is based in WSP’s vibrant city centre office alongside other teams from our diverse business, there is easy access to public transport links and city centre amenities.


What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…


  • A BSc in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management or equivalent

  • A passion for working on projects that make a real difference to local communities

  • Experience working in a Quantity Surveyor / Clerk of works role on highway, traffic and civil engineering projects.
