Qualifications

  • Experience in civil engineering, particularly Highways and Rail.

Quantity Surveyor – Environment

Rickmansworth (with travel across regional sites)

We’re delivering major projects that make a real difference and we need a skilled Quantity Surveyor to help us succeed. If you’re looking for a role where you’ll work on impactful schemes and grow your career in a supportive environment, this is your chance. As a Quantity Surveyor within our Southern business, you’ll work closely with your line manager to manage the commercial aspects of either a large single scheme or several smaller projects.

What you will be doing :
  • Preparing and negotiating subcontract documentation, terms, and pricing.
  • Managing subcontract packages, including interim assessments and change control.
  • Issuing commercial notices and handling compensation events in line with contract requirements.
  • Producing and agreeing monthly applications with clients.
  • Collaborating with operational teams to maintain accurate site records and manage budget variances.
  • Supporting the production of detailed monthly reports and cost reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Driving final account negotiations to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Helping achieve business targets for cash, profit, and return on capital.
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships for repeat business opportunities.
  • Assisting with cost planning, forecasting, and subcontractor liability tracking using Orbit-based cost analysis.
  • Managing risks and opportunities to enhance margin performance.
  • Attending progress and risk meetings with clients and subcontractors.
  • Maintaining positive relationships with leadership and project teams.
About You :
  • Solid knowledge of standard forms of contract and construction processes.
  • Strong IT skills (Excel, Word, and cost management systems such as CEMAR, Asite, Orbit).
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and settle final accounts.
  • Professional qualifications (MCIOB or MRICS) or working towards full membership (desirable).
  • Experience in civil engineering environments (Highways, Rail, Water, Aviation).
  • Exposure to large projects or multiple smaller schemes.
  • CSCS certification (as appropriate).
