Quality Assurance Engineer

Location: Derby

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum, dependent on experience.

We are seeking a proactive Quality Assurance Engineer to champion product integrity and customer satisfaction. This role focuses on maintaining rigorous quality standards across all stages of production, ensuring compliance with internal processes and industry benchmarks. You will play a key part in preventing defects, reducing variability, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The position requires strong problem-solving skills, technical expertise, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams.

Key Responsibilities for this Quality Assurance Engineer position:
  • Ensure adherence to all internal quality procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage calibration activities for gauges, instruments, and specialised equipment through approved suppliers.
  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions accurately.
  • Draft and update quality-related documentation, including procedures and work instructions.
  • Maintain and review technical specifications in partnership with the Quality leadership team.
  • Conduct internal audits in line with recognised standards (e.g., AS9100).
  • Oversee customer returns and supplier corrective actions, providing timely feedback to production teams.
  • Investigate non‑conformance issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive measures using structured problem‑solving tools (e.g., 8D).
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers, and external auditors to resolve quality concerns.
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing waste and enhancing process reliability.
  • Deliver work with precision and within agreed timelines.
Skills & Experience for this Quality Assurance Engineer position:
  • Background in Quality or Engineering within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies (8D preferred).
  • Internal auditing experience to recognised standards (AS9100 desirable).
  • Aerospace experience required.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement principles and tools.
  • Previous exposure to high‑volume or precision manufacturing sectors (aerospace experience advantageous).
  • Proven ability to manage customer and supplier relationships effectively.
Qualifications:
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, manufacturing, or a related discipline (ONC, BTec Level 4, NVQ Level 4 considered).
  • Proficient in MS Office and quality management systems.
Working Hours:
  • Monday to Friday
  • Flexible shift options:
    • 07:00-16:00 (Mon‑Thu), 07:00-12:00 (Fri)
    • OR 08:00-17:00 (Mon‑Thu), 08:00-13:00 (Fri)
