Finance Assistant (Purchase Ledger)

Part-time | 28–32 hours per week | Hybrid working

Are you a proactive Purchase Ledger professional looking for a flexible, supportive finance role where you can really take ownership?

We’re working with a growing business that’s looking to welcome a Finance Assistant (Purchase Ledger) into their friendly and collaborative finance team. This is a part-time opportunity (approx. 28–32 hours per week) with flexibility around days worked. While normal full-time hours are 9 : 00–5 : 30 (with a 30-minute lunch), the team is happy to accommodate different working patterns — with the understanding that some flexibility is required around month end.

The Role :

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you’ll take responsibility for the end-to-end purchase ledger function, working closely with both internal teams and external suppliers. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who enjoys ownership, problem-solving, and being part of a supportive finance environment.

Key responsibilities include :
  • Processing high-volume supplier invoices, matching purchase orders to jobs on the MIS system
  • Managing daily export / import controls and flagging exceptions
  • Processing overhead invoices
  • Resolving invoice queries and disputes
  • Preparing weekly payment runs and early settlement runs, issuing remittance advices
  • Reconciling supplier statements
  • Processing staff expenses in Sage Intacct
  • Posting and reconciling company credit card transactions
  • Supporting month‑end purchase ledger accrual analysis
  • Assisting with annual audits
  • General finance and administrative support as required

You’ll ideally have :
  • Proven experience in a Purchase Ledger / Finance Assistant role
  • Confidence using Excel (intermediate level)
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or a similar accounting system
  • Exposure to an in‑house management information system
  • A proactive, can‑do attitude and strong organisational skills
  • Basic knowledge of double‑entry bookkeeping (AAT desirable)
