Job Title: Public Health Consultants x 2

Location: Carlisle

Salary: £75,536 to £81,330

About this opportunity

These are full time posts, working across the Council, community and wider partners to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of our communities and address inequality. You will have the opportunity to shape, influence and lead key areas of work within the Council Plan and our Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

Although all public health consultants are generalists, you will lead on a specific portfolio of work which may change over time depending on priorities. Two posts are being appointed to, with portfolios covering health protection, substance misuse, input to the Cumberland Health Determinants Research Collaborative (HDRC), sexual health, public health training and workforce development, and input to tackling the wider determinants of health including poverty. One post may include 0.5 FTE providing leadership to the HDRC; this is fixed term until the end of December 2028. The second post is permanent and may include the lead role for health protection. Both posts are politically restricted.

Although all public health consultants are generalists, you will lead on a specific portfolio of work which may evolve with priorities. Two posts are appointed to, with portfolios covering health protection, substance misuse, HDRC input, sexual health, public health training and workforce development, and addressing wider determinants such as poverty. One post may include 0.5 FTE for HDRC leadership (fixed term to Dec 2028). The second post, likely leading health protection, is permanent. Both posts are politically restricted.
