A local government organization in Manchester is seeking a Public Health Leader to provide strategic guidance and improve health outcomes across the community. The ideal candidate will have qualifications in public health and skills in problem-solving and communication. You will work alongside partners to deliver health initiatives, support community engagement, and foster collaboration. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful health improvements within Tameside.
This is a great opportunity to join Public Health at Tameside MBC. Tameside is one of the ten boroughs in Greater Manchester and is a 10‑minute train ride into Manchester City Centre. We work closely with the other nine local authorities and Public Health teams across Greater Manchester, including the GM Combined Authority, led by the GM Mayor Andy Burnham. There are exciting GM-wide programmes which this role will have the direct opportunity to lead on, such as the Live Well programme.
This role will provide strategic leadership within Public Health, across the council and wider system, alongside the Director of Public Health, Assistant Director and the existing Public Health Consultant in the team. It will provide strategic leadership as part of the Public Health Senior Team and the Extended Leadership team of the council. You will work with partners to improve health outcomes across the population, as identified in the Tameside Corporate Plan and Health & Wellbeing Strategy. The role reports directly to the Director of Public Health.

You will play a key role in developing the public health function and supporting day-to-day operations. The role offers access to CPD opportunities to support ongoing professional registration, and opportunities to explore areas such as research and health protection, with broad line management and educational supervision experience.
