Are you looking to turn your experience to support children within a mainstream Primary School environment?
The SENCO of a reputable Primary School in Preston is keen to secure a Teaching Assistant qualified up to graduate level to support small groups of pupils across the school who require additional SEMH support. Senior Leaders in school are committed to ensuring each child receives the right level of support and have therefore created a new role in school to support and improve the mental health and wellbeing of individual children. The Head Teacher has an 'open door policy' for staff to come forward with new ideas and she is committed to whole school improvement.
This role will begin from November 2025 or ASAP. No two days are the same at this school and the role will be diverse and involve liaising with outside agencies, providing support to individual and small groups of children, liaising with class teachers regarding individual children and delivering 1:1 session's both in the classroom and intervention classrooms. The successful candidate will report directly to the SENCO.
Responsibilities

- Engage with children and families to build excellent relationships; be open minded and committed to inclusion; demonstrate a good understanding of each individual child’s needs.
- Report directly to the SENCO and work with staff at all levels to support whole school wellbeing and inclusion.
- To work between 8:45 and 15:30 each day (with possible longer hours on some days due to staff meetings).
Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be qualified up to Degree level.
- Experience of supporting children or vulnerable adults with their mental health is desirable; a Psychology Graduate is preferred as they feel a candidate with expertise in this field would be a great addition to their pastoral and inclusion team.
- All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
- Full safeguarding checks: All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The role includes safeguarding training.
Compensation and Status
- Rates of pay are competitive for work of this nature and vary from £450-£460 per week.
- All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
- This advert is for a temporary position; in some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
