About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Project Technician to join the team within our integrated WSP / Norfolk County Council Design Consultancy based in County Hall, Norwich. The long‑term contract with Norfolk County Council started in 2014 and offers an opportunity to be part of some exciting and diverse projects. This role supports the highways design team in delivering countywide infrastructure projects, addressing client needs and challenges. The position requires working at County Hall in Norwich at least two days per week, with remote work available for the remaining days.

What You’ll Do
  • Providing technical information, carrying out straightforward design and analysis, and preparing quantities and dimensions for projects using the Schedule of Rates and Method of Measurement.
  • Operating specialist systems, particularly as an experienced user of AutoCAD, to support project owners and designers in delivering projects.
  • With supervision, compiling construction documentation and related reports, such as safety audits and quality standards, in line with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Aiding with feasibility and scheme studies (traffic & transportation) under guidance to ensure proposed schemes and programmes meet Planning and Transport goals.
  • Conducting site visits as needed to gather information critical to successful project design.
  • Using internal invoicing systems to process invoices and track payments for the teams.
  • Developing and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Taking a proactive approach, including researching, and drafting responses as needed.
  • Handling enquiries, managing project and financial trackers and reporting.
What We’ll Look For
  • Experience in highways or structural design and basic project management or project administration skills.
  • An understanding of highway engineering principles, including design techniques, standards, and procedures with the ability to apply this knowledge to small‑scale projects or a limited number of moderately complex projects.
  • Proficiency in IT applications, including MS Office. Basic knowledge of design software such as AutoCAD or similar design software.
  • The role requires a full UK driving licence as occasional site visits will be necessary.
