Job Title: Project Manager – National Grid Project

Location: King’s Lynn

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and delivery-focused Project Manager to oversee the end‑to‑end execution of a National Grid electricity transmission project, covering substation or overhead line works from 132kV to 400kV. This role involves overall responsibility for project delivery, budget control, programme management, health & safety, and client liaison, with full compliance to National Grid procedures, TP135/TP137, and Safety Rules.

The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team, ensuring the successful delivery of high‑voltage infrastructure projects on time and within budget, while upholding safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the planning, delivery, and financial control of National Grid infrastructure projects from pre‑construction through to commissioning.
  • Lead and coordinate site managers, engineers, planners, commercial staff, and subcontractors.
  • Act as the main point of contact for the client (National Grid) and ensure excellent stakeholder communication.
  • Ensure full compliance with CDM 2015, TP135, and National Grid Safety Rules, including management of the project under TP137.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project programmes, risk registers, and cost reports.
  • Oversee procurement, change management, contract administration, and cost control.
  • Support National Grid’s safety culture by embedding best practice, conducting audits, and ensuring the correct application of permits and safety processes.
  • Chair regular progress meetings and produce client‑facing reports and updates.
  • Drive environmental, quality, and sustainability performance on site.
  • Manage all handover and completion documentation including commissioning, testing, as‑built, and O&M manuals.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in project management of National Grid or HV infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of substation, overhead line, or cable installation works.
  • Proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary project teams delivering on complex utility frameworks.
  • National Grid BESC & Persons certification.
  • TP137 Competent Person or understanding of requirements and willingness to obtain.
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme).
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • EUSR SHEA Power, National Water Hygiene, and First Aid certification.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts, project controls, and stakeholder management.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Attributes
  • Chartered status (e.g. CEng, MCIOB, MAPM) or working toward it.
  • Proficient in Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar planning software.
  • Experience delivering turnkey HV or substation works as a principal contractor.
  • Ability to contribute to tendering, work winning, and client presentations.
  • Experience managing commissioning and energisation activities in regulated environments.
