Overview

The Pandemic Sciences Institute (PSI) in the Nuffield Department of Medicine (NDM) is recruiting a Project Manager: Assurance & Finance for the Africa Pandemic Sciences Collaborative, a high-profile initiative delivered in partnership with Science for Africa (SFA) Foundation, based in Nairobi, and Mastercard Foundation.

PSI was established in 2021 as a University-wide initiative to build on the model of innovation, collaboration and agility that delivered breakthroughs during COVID-19. Through excellence in research and equitable global partnerships, PSI aims to safeguard health and economic stability for future generations, with support from a wide range of funders.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as PSI’s primary assurance and finance specialist for the Africa Pandemic Sciences Collaborative.
  • Support management of a budget of up to $80 million, including reviewing overseas expenditure and coordinating annual re-budgeting processes.
  • Prepare financial reports and maintain detailed trackers and documentation.
  • Support risk management and ensure effective communication across diverse programme stakeholders.
  • Travel internationally to Africa may be required.
Qualifications and experience
  • Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills; proven experience managing assurance, compliance and finance activities within complex international programmes.
  • Solid grasp of financial systems and processes; highly skilled in Excel; ability to prepare, monitor and forecast large, activity-based budgets.
  • Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and ability to present complex information clearly to senior stakeholders and committees.
  • Comfort with influencing, challenging, and guiding decisions in a collaborative way; good problem-solving skills; interest in global health and/or international development.
  • Degree in a relevant subject; experience in resource-constrained settings and/or complex international partnerships.
  • Experience in higher education or research settings and a professional finance or assurance qualification (completed or in progress) would be an advantage.
