Job description
About the Role

Maintaining the rail network is a key part of what we do every day. As a railway Technician, you’ll work outdoors as part of a close‑knit team, carrying out essential maintenance on the tracks to ensure trains run safely and reliably for both passengers and freight. You will undertake inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal work as allocated, and also support the Team Leader in organising and motivating the team so that work is undertaken safely, efficiently and to the relevant standards. There may be a requirement to work on call if you opt to take the Standard Maintenance Contract.

You matter to your team – the team depends on you. You’re responsible for checking that vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials under your control are fit for use and are used, stored and disposed of correctly. You will also ensure that staff under your supervision have the appropriate and valid competencies to carry out work safely, and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures.

You matter to us – your commitment to self‑development and continuous learning is hugely important in this role. We’ll provide you with all the training to develop both technical skills and non‑technical skills. Today’s Technicians are tomorrow’s Team Leaders and we offer a clear career path for you.

  • Support the Team Leader in organising, motivating and managing the team.

  • Check vehicle, plant and equipment fitness for use and correct storage/disposal.
  • Verify that staff have appropriate competencies and valid procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques on railway infrastructure.

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Category B driving licence to operate Network Rail vehicles.
  • Within a 60‑minute commute of the work location.
