Overview
Project Manager – Automation - PLC SCADA HMI, Chesterfield. £65,000 to £75,000. Full-time, Permanent, Hybrid working.
Key responsibilities
- Full Lifecycle Management of automation projects from FEED through design, implementation, commissioning, and handover.
- Technical and Commercial Ownership: Ensure compliance with specifications and commercial targets, with a keen eye on cost control and value creation.
- Client Relationship Management: Serve as the key point of contact for clients, managing expectations and communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Team Leadership: Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams including automation, functional safety, panel manufacture, and installation.
- Subcontractor Management: Ensure quality, compliance, and delivery through effective oversight.
- Project Controls: Work with planners, QSs and cost engineers to manage schedules, budgets, and risks, using tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6, and SAP.
- Variation and Scope Management: Identify and deliver project variations and ensure strict scope control.
- Safety Leadership: Prioritise personal and team safety, aligning with CDM 2015 and internal safety standards.
About you
- 5+ years' experience managing engineering or automation projects in industries such as:
- Nuclear (defence or decommissioning)
- Food & Beverage
- Pharmaceutical / Chemical
- Energy / Renewables
- Utilities or Heavy Industry
- Proven experience in managing complex Automation technical projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of contract management frameworks including NEC3/4, MF1, and bespoke contracts.
- Excellent leadership, planning, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage technical and commercial aspects of projects simultaneously.
Qualifications
- HNC/HND or higher in a relevant Engineering discipline.
- APMP (PMQ) or equivalent qualification preferred.
- Membership of a professional body (e.g. IET, APM) desirable.
